Drink water or diluted fruit juice in place of soft drinks (this includes diet soda which isn't as healthy as you might think).

Choose low calorie snacks like plain popcorn or fruits.

Make smart choices when it comes to your meals. Choosing wheat bread over white and grilled chicken instead of a greasy burger may sound simple enough, but it could be the difference between gaining weight or losing it.

Buy your food fresh from the local grocery store or farmers market.

Don't over eat. Only eat until you get full. Sometimes we eat because of stress from work, or just because there is food in front of us. Resist the temptation and reap the benefits on the scale!

Stay away from alcohol. If you must drink, stick with a dark beer. It's not as processes as other drinks. Vodka is also a slightly better choice then other alcohol because it contains less sugar. Stay away from rum.
